Szilvia Gyorgy was born in Hungary she has spent one half of her life in Budapest, the other half in Sydney. She studied ceramics at National Art School in Sydney and at ANU Institute of the Arts in Canberra and has been exhibiting both in Australia and internationally in the past 10 years. Szilvia is interested in creating objects that express the rhythm of life. She finds endless fascination in the dualities of life; positive-negative, stillness – motion, distance – closeness, upside – downside, inside – outside.
In her ceramics she searchers for new forms by deconstructing old ones, seeking aesthetic and physical balance through the process of shifting elements until they again reestablish order from chaos. The result creates a shadow-play of positive and negative areas and varying planes that shift according to perspective.
