“Kate Hume… How to tame Russians”

Every so often in this industry, I come across a designer that reignites my passion for design and sets a personal standard for what I believe is near perfect design, or at the very least, design in which I would happily live or work. Kate Hume is one such designer. Her interiors are everything I believe good design should be these days. That is, they constitute a global aspect while retaining the signature style of the designer and still characterizing the needs and respects of the client. In Hume’s interiors, every piece of furniture or lighting sourced works as a piece of art or sculpture, beautiful and dazzling in itself, yet adds to the cohesive whole of the space. Together with her material choices, which are varied and luxurious, these pieces define her ethos towards absolute quality and pronounce her style as modern, global and perfectly composed.

Hume’s abilities are never more evident than in the numerous projects she has completed in Russia, a land where less is never more and if you have it, you flaunt it. One of her latest projects in Moscow has brought about a refined air to a typical Muscovite interior – dark timber panelling, neutral tones with warm oranges, natural textures and organic forms – and naturally just a bit of gold here and there.  Designed around the clients existing art collection, the space thrusts Russian interiors into the twenty-first century with grace and refinement.  Mansion Russia Projects below…
