“Cool, Calm and Collected”

I cannot decide whether a bachelor, a couple or a family inhabits this apartment and I guess there in lies the beauty of the design. Located on Park Avenue, this project by Darci Hether is a prefect example of an articulated urban dwelling, with clean sophisticated lines, a strong self-assured colour palate and the occasional touch of whimsy.

Building upon a grey backdrop, Hether has developed a materials palate that harmonises the different areas of the apartment with dark stained timber flooring, marble tiles, horsehair wallcovering and (my favourite) slate tiles. The furnishings are characterised by handsome upholstered pieces with clean lines and a tendency towards comfort with the fixtures showing Hether’s commitment to serious quality, the Lindsay Adelman light above the dining table being foremost among them. In the end, it really doesn’t matter who lives here, the point is this apartment is a cool, calm and collected expression of New York City.
