Open House Melbourne, in partnership with Major Projects Victoria and Metro, is excited to announce an exclusive tour of the Flinders Street Station and Ballroom. The tour is offered as part of promotions for the Flinders Street Station Design Competition People’s Choice Award that begins on Tuesday 23 July with the reveal of the six shortlisted designs. There are just ten (10) positions available on the exclusive Open House Melbourne tour, which will include the famous Flinders Street Station Ballroom. However if you are hearing this for the 1st time then you may have missed the entry cut off date for entering the ballot. That said there are 111 significant buildings to inspect this weekend in Melbourne! To find out more click Open House Melbourne. I would die just a little to walk around the iconic Flinders Strret Station… fingers crossed I could be one of the 10 people selected. Oh and did I mention Open house Melbourne  …. is FREE !

Constructed in 1932 at nearly £600,000 Melbourne’s iconic Manchester Unity Building represents a rare blend of art, science, culture and commerce. It has a special place in the history of Melbourne and the hearts of its citizens. For me it was where I studied fashion design at a little fashion academy in the 1980’s. Take an exclusive tour through the ground floor arcade, level 1, the rooftop terrace, the level 11 boardroom and the rooftop entertainment area I can highly recommended it.

The RMIT design hub has a large number of ESD features incorporating strategies of water, waste and recycling management that are the equal of any ESD focused building on the planet according to Godsell . In particular the outer skin of the Hub incorporates automated sunshading that includes photovoltaic cells, evaporative cooling and fresh air intakes that improve the internal air quality and reduce running costs. I recently was given a tour of the building and I found it simply remarkable, literally giving me goosebumps. It really is a must see at Melbourne’s open house.
