Zaha Hadid Heydar Aliyev Centre
What’s not to love about Zaha Hadid and the recently completed Heydar Aliyev Centre in Baku, Azerbaijan. Making a stark departure from the rigid and often monumental architecture of the former Soviet Union that is so prevalent in Baku Zaha Hadid architects set out to create fluid architecture with continuous calligraphic scripts and patterning of historical Islamic architecture that flow from carpets to walls, walls to ceilings, ceilings to domes; establishing seamless relationships and blurring distinctions between architectural elements and the ground they inhabit. Speechless… seriously.
