The Straight and Narrow – Elwood

This townhouse, designed by InForm and located in Melbourne bayside suburb of Elwood, is an exercise in contrast and restraint. Set in a row of three, the long and narrow space has the advantage of a central courtyard that creates a focal point for the ground floor public areas – kitchen, living, study – to radiate from while at the same time throwing much need natural light into the home. On the first floor there two incredibly proportioned bedrooms, each with their own dressing room and bathroom.

Throughout, the materials palate creates a refined sense of contrast with the imposing dark exterior giving way to soft and mellow timbers and stones. The kitchen provides a moment difference in the scheme (I am in LOVE with black kitchens), and together with the black lighting fixtures and furniture, it frames the restraint architecture.
