Whats new from the talented Ross Gardam?

Product designer Ross Gardam has released two new collections to his already impressive body of work.
The Half Full furniture range for Stylecraft, and Touch glass blown lighting range
Both collections, while following very different investigations, represent the development of beautiful, simple solutions to complex problems.
Half Full is a FSC-certified timber furniture collection featuring seven table options, four benches and a stool. Designed and manufactured in Melbourne, the collection is underpinned by a half turned leg feature, injecting a playful personality and sense of lightness into the solid oak range. Both ranges blur the lines of commercial, hospitality and residential. Below are his new collections with some of my favourites by Melbourne based Gardam.

the coolest outdoor furniture by Keith Melbourne

How awesome is this furniture range inspired by a love of glassware, Keith Melbourne has created a fun and good looking plastic furniture range for Zenith called the The Glass Collection paying tribute to iconic glass forms.
Comprising of three stools, Latte, Cognac and Crystal, and the Champagne table the collection is locally manufactured in Melbourne, it's UV stable and fully recyclable Polyethylene. Plastic outdoor furniture has definitely come along way.

Samuel Wilkinson’s adorable hoof table

Samuel Wilkinson's legs on his hoof tables are sharpened at the foot like a horse’s hoof is trimmed before it is shod but to me the legs are reminiscent of sharpening a pencil with a blade or knife. The fine edge of the tables is created from the soft chamfer being on the top and bottom. This also gives the tables a tactile feel and displays the tables are made from solid wood.

Tom Ford, be inspired by this well told documentary

I LOVED this documentary on the inspirational and sometimes eccentric Tom Ford I think many designers across all disciplines can relate to his story. I suggest unless you have a spare 45 minutes at work it might be well worth viewing at home or have lunch with Tom. Enjoy!

Loopy lounges and robots ?

This chaise lounge, created by young Dutch designer Sophie De Vocht, is hot! Born from her interest in technique of “tufting”, characterized by a high number of tufts of yarn inserted through needles on to a fabric base. It's metal structure acts as a support and allows the user to relax upon the chaise lounge, cradled by its softness and by the contact with the ground where it is placed.

Born in the 80′s….. 25 years of Designer Rugs

Eli Tal, Nurit Tal and Yosi Tal the founders of Designer Rugs

In the mid 80"s when big hair ruled and salmon and grey dominated interiors Eli, Nurit and Yosi Tal noticed that no one in Australia was producing hand tufted rugs and the only rugs available were in pastels which prompted the Tal family to fill this gap.

With no experience what so ever they opened their manufacturing workshop in the Sydney suburb of Marrickville in 1986. Yosi, Eli and Nurit believed that rugs could make a statement and it was this belief that laid the foundations for the creative work and collaborations which Designer Rugs is known for today.

In 1986 Designer Rugs opened it's first store at the Rocks Sydney Harbor and they began working on residential and commercial projects but it was the late 80's and times were tough until divine intervention gave a much needed boost to their profile. Designer Rugs was commissioned by St Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne to create a custom made rug for Pope John Paul II’s Australian visit. This project was a collaboration between Roman Catholics, Anglicans and Jews, Yosi believes it was a gift from the Gods.

Building on the ethos approaching rugs as statement pieces like art Designer Rugs had a clear vision and began collaborating with iconic Australian artists and designers earning them an enviable reputation.

American designer Kelly Wearstler

American designer Kelly Wearstler is not a minimalist, not by a long shot her projects evoke luxury with a play on layers, patterns, textures with finishes in matt and gloss.
Her colour pallet can be bright and in some cases quite monotone but the end result is her ability to transport you to a place less boring than the life we know.
Kelly crosses over many fields from residential, hospitality, home-wears and recently a clothing line.
