little footprint
Victorian based MAKE architecture studios' House Reduction project was all about reducing it's internal footprint. As an alternative to the large ‘box on back’ extension, this project looks at how smaller spaces and multifunctional rooms can provide a large family with the space they need. MAKE identify the move towards smaller, more flexible houses as an essential response to conserve resources and reduce carbon footprints.
Screens are used to provide flexibility allowing the living space to expand and contract. The screens also protect the house from the busy road at the rear of the property and can be pulled across to shade the house in summer.

Azuris Hamilton Island by Renato D’Ettorre Architects
Sydney based Renato D'Ettorre Architects have created a slice of heaven on picturesque Hamilton Island, the design of the house responds to it's spectacular location near the edge of the ocean with the site falling steeply away towards the water’s edge. The house is built around the eternal elements of sun, sea and air whilst the internal spaces wrap themselves around water and courtyards, capturing not only ocean views but also inward looking private vistas... take me there!

A little bit of faux
We all need to fake it from time to time and thanks to amazing digital reproduction faux wallpapers have come a long way. This little find comes from Western Australian business Scandinavian Wallpaper & Decor. They have some hot wall treatments that mimic stone, concrete, books and fabric.... so much fun!

have you discovered De Castelli ?
De Castelli create vases, planters, chairs, tables, partitions, doghouses and nests. Their objective is to create geometric and non-geometric objects that decorate with discretion, without overpowering the surrounding environment. There is soooo much that I love about these guys, their forms are simple and the products are clever, take for instance the plant pot dog house a perfect integration of a planter and dog shelter. Oh and did I mention within the planter is a place for the dog leash.... seriously brilliant!

South Yarra from the 1920′s
Built in the 1920's as two duplexes, in South Yarra this residence meshes the character filled historic architecture with a stunning modern addition. My love for this project is the well proportioned spaces you just can't beat wide open walkways leading onto gracious living spaces. This family home designed by Carr design group from the street shows no indication of it's sleek light filled interior or the bold two story glazed addiction at the rear of the property..... such a successful transition.
