The second edition of the Festival of Lights has just taken place in the town centre of Ghent a Flemish region of Belgium which commenced on 26 January and concluded on 29th . The event drew an estimated 200,000 visitors, both from Belgium and abroad.
This 4 day event stretches across a long 5 kilometer walking route that is truly breathtaking. I had a difficult task selecting images to share with you so please take the time to follow the link and visit all the individual installations online.
Above – De Cagna Luminarie a giant colonnade made of wood and hundreds of thousands of colored lights, inspired by Romanesque and Renaissance architecture. The entrance area soars 28 meters high oh… and by the way in case your wondering this installation used 55,000 LED lights consuming only 20Kwatt / h of electricity!
Above – A lyrical work of art Perspective Lyrique is an interactive installation on the facade of Bishop House, the voice of the audience participates: a system of visual distortion responds to voice commands.
Above- The Ghent Barge – Stien De Vrieze creates a moving projection with white horses and other images that refer to the historical past of the vessel ‘The Barge of Ghent. The images are projected onto a water fountain and the projection is accompanied by ethereal music of Inne Eysermans van Amatorski….. stunning.
Above -Spectaculaires the facade of the Post Plaza building on the Corn Market has been transformed into a universe where light, sound projection and the story about the dream of a little boy who is a giant …. Windows and doors change into toy figures and the entire building becomes a fairy tale. Described as an experience for young and old.
