Casa Chile

Casa O designed by 01 Arq is located north of Santiago in Chile. The triangular site has a slope that descends to the north which literally buries part of ground level of the building creating a retaining wall and drive way – car park. Access to the home is by a glass door flanked by concrete walls and a reflection pond proceeding down sitars to the main foyer. On the first floor the project offers maximum flexibility in the living spaces; sliding walls allow the kitchen and dining room to function as separate rooms or one large space. During the summer the glass facades are hidden behind concrete walls, transforming the living and dining rooms in a large covered terrace that joins the outdoor pool and garden. The kitchen opens to the south through an interior courtyard; this space organizes the service programs. The second level contains bedrooms, bathrooms and the TV room, all four facades are  covered by a skin of timber slats that is separated from the walls so the wind can pass throw optimizing natural ventilation and cooling. This skin of the outer timber slats can be peeled back  allowing views of the valley from inside the house. The stairwell located in the center of the house provides access to a roof terrace, from which you can see the valley and the Andes Mountains. Seriously what not to love about this little charmer!
