Queensland Hightide: Queensland Design Now

Once best known for its beaches and idyllic, tropical climate, over the past decade Queensland has emerged as a wellspring of design innovation. High Tide: Queensland Design Now is the first book to capture the output of this vibrant centre of contemporary design. To celebrate the launch of the book, join author/designer Jason Bird and several of its featured creatives in a lively discussion of what it means to be an Australian designer in a global age. Should designers aim to reflect an international sensibility in their work, or an Australian one? Is it even possible to talk of a distinctly ‘Australian’ design culture? What are the challenges facing the development of a local design industry, and is local manufacturing part of the problem, or the solution? I know … so many questions, Join Jason Bird, Ross Gardam, Nicholas Karlovasitis, more at The Podium on Saturday, August 17 at 2.30pm at Sydney Indesign. I’ll be there … will you?
