A small Victorian cottage located in Inner City, Melbourne Australia was removed to make way for a new home. Designed by Wilson iD the house was designed for a client who wanted to live in a warehouse style home inspired by Melbourne’s Industrial style cafes and lane-way culture. Head designer Ian Wilson said, “The brief was challenging given the suburban context of the project however it presented a fantastic opportunity to consider what is inherently appealing about industrial space and then reinterpret this to create a domestic environment that had the language and spatial qualities of industrial space yet still evoke a sense of luxury.”
In keeping with the industrial theme many of the materials are recycled or up-cycled and where possible, used in as found condition. Internally the palette of robust materials are skillfully integrated with pre finished materials that are applied randomly but in a very controlled way hitting that perfect balance of old and the new. I don’t know about you but I feel like I could stroll in and order a coffee and some breakfast! We love a bit of lane way chic!
