Texture and Context in the Philippines

Texture and context is a wonderful thing. In an interior it adds dimension and interest and can serve to fuse seemingly disparate areas of a home together into one cohesive whole. In this home in the Philippines by Atelier Sacha Cotture, the choice of bamboo to clad the exterior was made as a nod to the historical building material for local villages. In using bamboo the designers have grounded the house, modern though it is, in with the town in which it was built.

Moving to the interior, the master bedroom has a feature wall of coconut bark, which gives the room a wonderful grounding and connection to the local environment. The dramatic entrance too is drawn from the surrounding landscape being clad in local granite.

With various other timbers and stone used throughout, this home truly is a gracious study on the ability of texture and context to create the underlying narrative to a design and with such style!
