Cristina Jorge de Carvalho is a pretty big deal. She has designed numerous chic hotels throughout Europe but today I want to show you this elegant and timeless apartment in Lisbon in Portugal.
Carvalho’s signature is to play with contrast in material and texture. This also applies to the mix of furniture and decorative objects. Here she has skillfully created a harmony between classic and contemporary design pieces.
The large bespoke white screen, which divides the open plan living space and separates the entrance, defines the dining room. Here the reflective surfaces of dining table and Tulip chairs contrast with the ornate chandelier above. Stunning.
Caevalho has used a mostly neutral palette with blocks of colour from selected furniture pieces and objects. The further helps to define spaces within the open plan living and dining. Downstairs in the master bedroom some colour is added through the luxurious upholstered walls in green silk.
This apartment has timelessness that can only be created through great design and editing. Contrast is a difficult design principle to balance but here elements of texture, colour and material play in harmony.
