Fun on a Grand Scale

Colour and comfort combine in this well-proportioned Upper East Side townhouse. Clearly the designers, Dineen Architecture and Design, lucked out with their clients as the home has an apparent playful and a not-too-serious air about it.

The main sitting area with glass ceiling and lush garden beyond reminds me more of 1960s Hollywood Hills than contemporary New York with clean clines, bright pops of colour and soft shag that the dog obviously loves.  In this room is a stunning abstract artwork which has been utilised in a clever way to transition the silver walls of the lower levels into the white walls of the upper levels.

In all rooms, the schemes have been kept soft and relaxed in terms of both tone and texture with contrast being achieved through the sculptural lighting and graphic art throughout. This project for me shows that even gentrified homes can be playful, fun and grand all at once.
