The HELLO House

We are always on the lookout for homes that make a statement and that proudly carry their designer’s vision. Nowhere is this more evident than in the Hello House designed by OOF! Architecture and located in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond.

The house, a former shop-residence, has been renovated and added into to suit a multi-purpose life. In one instance is it the home of its occupiers and in another it is a creative studio. As the architect put it “inside, the house adjusts to the needs and moods of this residents – a cosy retreat in winter or an airy pavilion in summer – all secret from the outside world.”

Internally, the interiors are paired back and understated with concrete used for flooring and plywood for joinery and ceilings alike. Without a doubt the new street façade with its bold yet subtle “HELLO” is my favourite feature. It’s friendly, a bit kitsch and very Melbourne.

In a suburb like Richmond where the houses are tightly packed, I like that this home connects so directly with the street while achieving a high amount of privacy for its owners.
