deceptively simple
Passing through rice paddies & villages, discreet way-finding signs and some very narrow passes, emerges a serenely beautiful form; it’s striking yet humble, quiet yet assured – immediately my curiosity is piqued. Located adventurously off the typical tourist trail in the southwest region of Bali, the award winning EarthCheck-rated Alila Villas Soori is a stunning boutique property by Singapore-based SCDA Architects.
Moving through to the lobby lounge, there is a clear sense of arrival. Like an arresting opening paragraph to a great novel, you just know there is greatness to come. Landscaped gardens, light wells & voids, water courtyards of varying scales begin to unveil breathtaking ocean views and architectural vistas. The design language is all about contemporary clean-cut lines, pure forms and 90-degree profiles, and it all looks deceptively simple. Making our way through the interconnected spaces, you get a genuine appreciation for the architect’s sensitivity to design and planning; within the resort’s site boundaries include an active rice paddy field attended to by local farmers daily. Some of the most interesting spaces are the interstitial spaces; no detail is left unaccounted for.
Villa composition includes One & Three Bedrooms (and one magnificent 10-Bedder). All villas are oriented to capture natural light & ventilation, and offer ocean, beach or mountain views and private pools. The luxury factor needs no mention here. The flow from interior to exterior feels more like: Do you want full shade; half shade or full brilliant light, is simply brilliant! And as if things couldn’t get any better, daily breakfasts here resemble a mini degustation!
