taking a bold approach
Each year the interior design world and design lovers alike turn their attention to the decorator showcase homes in the US. On the East Coast it is the Kips Bay Decorator Show House in New York and on the West Coast, and officially opening over the weekend, is the San Francisco Decorator Showcase. This year it is housed in a century old mansion in the Presidio Heights neighbourhood with the proceeds from the showcase go towards supporting the San Francisco University High School.
The chosen designers are given free-reign to imagine and create their chosen rooms and the results are always wide-ranging and inspiring. This year’s themes ranged from a Vogue magazine inspired Salon to an homage to the home’s architect in the Entry Hall.
My list of favourite features is long, but my top favourite would have to be the ceiling treatments throughout. Each designer has taken a bold approach to considering the finish on the ceiling of their room from bold monochromatic stripes in the Dining Room by Cecilie Starin Design to the deep celadon lacquered ceiling in the living area and kitchen by Navarra Design.
A close second in my favourite features of this year’s home is the colour of the Master Bedroom walls…I am seriously in love! I also cannot look past the soft grey crocodile skin textured wallpaper in the Lounge.
Throughout the home, there are the common elements of texture, layers and always the unexpected and though the designs are highly conceptual, the rooms always come off as very liveable. I cannot wait for 2016!
