modernist pavilion Melbourne

Located in the bay-side suburb in Brighton, Melbourne Australia this existing 2 story art deco home was refurbished with a new addition to the rear of the dwelling to include a large open plan living area. Designed by Techne the renovation features a sunken lounge, suspended fire place and a window into the swimming pool.

Inspired by the likes of Richard Neutra and Marcio Kogan, the client provided a brief for a modernist pavilion extension that was seamlessly connected to the garden and pool. The neutral interior palette of travertine, American oak, brass, leather and velvet provide texture and warmth in a space otherwise dominated by window glazing and the ceiling plane.
