Boho Chic

This building once housed a law practice but is now the chic home to successful young couple Valerio Leone and Nastya Shershen – fashion designer and model respectively.  Long term friend Hannes Peer of Hannes Peer Architecture who has worked for important architects and major fashion brands such as Rem Koolhaas and No. 21, transformed this shell for the couple.
The apartment is on the first floor of an Art Deco building from the 1930s with some great original features – the marble floor in the living room has brass joints and the mosaics still present in the bathroom which were hand cut and laid, in an enchanting light blue. These elements were clearly the starting point for a major conversion. Reimagining the spaces from working into living involved removing walls, creating new transition spaces and highlighting those important details like door frames in marble, plaster and brickwork where necessary.
The longer you look, the clearer that the whole apartment is actually made up of contrasts – as if the owners wanted to go for a permanent walk through the contradictions of their present, their influences and preferences. This is Bohemian chic in 2017.
