Among the gumtrees, Victoria

Extending on an existing 90s structure, the Tree Pavilion located on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. As it is described by the aptly named architects Branch Studio incorporates the landscape into its design. The new addition serves as a master suite made up of three pavilions at varying heights. The first level houses the master bathroom featuring an indoor/outdoor shower and soaking tub. This leads to his and hers wardrobes, followed by the master bedroom on the uppermost level. Each platform is connected to the outdoors with a series of glazed walls, maximising sunlight and views, while some wrap around the sites mature trees to create private courtyards.
On mass use of simple materials is perhaps less decorative than you are probably used to me posting about but it’s definitely architectural and enjoy the truth to materiality here. Exposed aggregate concrete, copper piping and plywood are tough finishes, but the way the building responding to its environment softens them.
Could I live here? I’m not sure, but this buildings design has been refined with care and precision and the same attention to detail has been bestowed over the expert craftsmanship and I respect that.
