All in the Family

Choosing an architect is a great risk – will we get along? Will they understand my needs? Will I like the result? Perhaps then the pairing of client and architect on this project, located in Houston, Texas, was completely risk free (or an even greater risk!). In charging their son with the design of this home, the owners put complete faith that the result would be perfect (and it was his first commission!).

Michael Viviano of Viviano Viviano Architects (mum Catherine looks after the interior design side of the firm) translated his parents’ needs for a multi-functional home that would serve as the centre of family life, be open and spacious yet also programmed is such a way that the frequent entertaining his did could be done in a more traditional and separated way.

As Viviano puts it, the “interior would be set up as a clean, streamlined backdrop for the antique and vintage furnishings the couple would bring with them, which would blend with contemporary pieces as they settled in.”

Nothing in life is risk free, however the risks have paid off for this project, not only for the client, but also the architect who has produced an impressive first project.
