The Costa do Sol or the Portuguese Riviera is famous with the jet set elite and royalty alike, so its no surprise then that such a chic apartment presides over a slice of this dynamic coastline.
Cristina Jorge de Carvalho’s aesthetic could be described as a monolithic massing of materiality meets mid-century eclecticism. There is a real sense of confidence in the way she combines so many well-known furniture pieces to create spaces which are harmonious and interesting! Her blend of finishes is lovely here also. The softness of the silk in in the rugs against the mass of the marble coffee table played off the tactile nature of the wicker/ woven seats. The spaces are luxurious, warm and chic.
The background of this apartment is quite contemporary in that she has removed all cornicing and skirting and replaced with simple shadow gaps. I also love the gentle curve to the bulkhead in the Livingroom, softly concealing air-conditioning and other services which are essential when living on the Portuguese coast. I could happily see myself holidaying amongst the rich and famous and calling this place home, even for a night.
